Personal Reflection for week 11

It seems like the time flew by for this quarter because of the materials that were provided by this course. Unlike other typical classes, this online course has presented new tools that are useful to online teaching, and through different activities with these tools, the students were able to master the tools. I am glad that this quarter is over, but I am also very glad that I took this online course this quarter. I will find this course very useful for my future of teaching, and I am sure that I will be using the tools that I have acquired in this course. I will do my best to continue with next eLearning course provided at BC, and after I receive my degree, I will go into the field of teaching. I hope that the next classes that I am taking are as useful as this class.

From this course, I have learned the foundation of a great online course. From setting up blogs to finding tools for online teaching, many resources have been provided from the course. Frankly, some of activities instructions were hard to follow, but the teacher provided much help for me to learn all the materials that the teacher had to provide. If I were to be teaching the course, more thorough instructions could help the students with some of the activities we were supposed to do.

This video will help my students to learn basic badminton skills at the beginning of the course. This video is only three minutes long and show how to use basic badminton skills repeatedly. I found this video at TeacherTube.com. I think this website has many resources that supports teachers as well as students.
With this video, I also found a blog that explains some basic badminton skills in words. This blog will also help students who are not able to watch video online.

Personal Reflection for week 10

From this learning module project, I learned many things. This is my first time to make learning module as a teacher's point of view. Since I have never taught students before, it was hard for me to create a learning module. However, I asked some advice to many friends who are already teachers or have teacher experience including Sam. The advices are very helpful for my project. Actually, creating a sample activity was fun, however, the hardest part was assessment. I was always assessed by teachers so I did not know how to start it at first. So I asked my friend who has some teaching experience to help me. She gave me some ideas so I could finish my project. This project was not easy for me, however, it was a lot of fun and interesting job. I feel like I was enjoying creating learning module. Also it was very interesting to think in the teacher's point of view.

#portfolio 5

For week 5 portfolio, I would like to share with you a tool that can support online course teachers. The tool is called as VoiceThread, and it is very easy to use. The teacher could easily upload any types of file including powerpoint show, videos, images, or documents. It can include the teacher's actual voice. It is also possible to add students' voice to make any comments. Students and teachers can make comments by adding their voice or text. I think this tool is useful especially for onlin classes since online classes don't have face-to-face activities. This tool should be widely used for all online classes.
Here is VoiceThread link that I have created cooking lecture for the sample activity.

Personal Reflection for week 9

It was really fun to use Voice Thread! I really enjoyed playing with it. I made a powerpoint about how to cook tuna tofu nuggets for my simple activity. It was really easy to use and user friendly. Even though my activity was simple recipe, I feel like I learned something while I was uploading it. Now I can use this new tool and take advantage of Voice Thread for my future class.
I know there are numerous new tools due to the development of technology, and teachers can take advantage of these technologies in their classroom. It happens in classroom nowadays. I think this happening really helps students to understand better as well as teachers to teach effectively. Through this assignment, I learned how to use Voice Thread, and I hope more and more school friendly tools will be invented and developed.

Personal Reflection for week 8

First of all, I have learned that many people like me, who are trying to learn and receive certificates from American colleges, are spread across the country to expand their knowledge and skills to pursuit their career. Also, they are interested in the online-teaching courses, and they take courses that are similar to this course in order to experience such type of classes that is different from the original on-campus classes. I can search for help from these people, who have already experienced what I have to experience soon, and no matter what country they might be from, I can receive global help from people from different parts of the world. Online courses are a great help to finding such links to other people.

Personal Reflection 6

First of all, I did not know there were so many online course tools other than Blackboard Vista, and it amazed me how many variety of tools there are available. These tools have made learning much easier for many students, and available for some people who might not be able to attend actual classes. Most of the tools had similar features, some more and some less, but overall, the tools seemed to contain most of the features necessary for an online class to be able to deliver information across from the instructor to the students. The tools still require much from the instructors to build their course and upload the materials on to the tools, but this significantly helps the process of students receiving information much more easily.

Understanding for the understandings that I have posted, which is the enduring understanding, is easily detected. The main idea for such understanding is linking an image or picture for the idea that one is trying to learn/understand. After we have finished successfully linking an image with the idea, if someone were to mention the idea to us, we would instantly bring up the image in our head to remember the idea. If we realize this process after such process has occurred, then we know that we have accomplished the enduring understanding.

Personal Reflection 5 for week 6

While I was thinking about the trends assignment, I realized that there are more and more online classes in educational field. The advantage of online classes is time flexibility. If the student takes online class, then he/she does not need to follow the fixed schedule, instead he/she can use their time more effectively. The reason why I am taking online classes is also that I can make my schedule more flexible. That's why I choose my learning module topic as taking online class. Teachers who teach online can also manage their time more effectively like students. I think this advantage really attracts more students to take online classes. Through this module, I learned about the trend in education field nowadays.

Personal Reflection 4 for week 5

Through this module, I learned about the new technology names Voice Thread. I have never heard about this program, so when I first saw it, I was very surprised. Actually, I thought that it is hard to communicate with each other in online classes. However, after I saw this program, I learned that it is really possible to communicate with each other even though it is online class. While I was taking lecture through Voice Thread, I felt like I was taking oncampus lecture due to the real voice of techer and power point board. I also read some other classmates' comment on the last slide before I left mine, and it helped to share different opinions. After I was done with my homework for leaving comment, I was proud of myself about learning the new technology.

Module#3 for EDUC 251

I have taken online class for Geography when I was in highschool. That was my first time to take online class, and it was good experience to use new technology for my external study. To take online class, I bought PDP. Since PDP is portable tool, I could take the class wherever I go. When I was in highschool, there was some free study time to help students to study by themselves. I took PDP that contains my online lectures video files whick I downloaded and took lecture with earphones. (I could download online lecture as video files form) Due to PDP I could use my study time effectively and study what I need externally. At first, I though that taking online class would be hard since I was used to taking oncampus classes. However, the results came out differently what I expected. I could ask questions instantly, and the teacher could answer instantly as well so that I did not need to wait. I was surprised with the result because I should wait for the break time if I have any questions to teachers at school. Since I took that Geography online class, I became interested in online classes. I think online classes can give students more opportunities to manage their own time and schedule because, not like the oncampus class, students don't need to put themselves on fixed class time. Online classes are more flexible than offline classes. I also think that online class will improve the relationship between teachers and students. Since the teacher can focus on individual student's work, the relationship between teachers and students could be closer and concentrated. Sometimes I prefer online classes due to these reasons. I am looking forward to taking EDUC 251 online class in this quarter. I hope I learn alot about eLearning.

Personal Reflection 3

From the assignment #4, I learned how to use Google Docs program and copyright. Actually, this week's assignment was a little bit hard for me since I did not have enough information about the copyright law of the United States. Due to this assignment, I learned about the law of copyright in the United States, and I also think again how it is important to everyone. About the small group presentation assignment, I also had hard time to complete this assignment. I am still figuring out how to share the presentation with my group member. I think this Google Docs program is really useful because it is online working so that it does not need to install any program to use it. It also can be shared with other people, so it will help students to share other group's presentation without face-to-face meeting. Google Docs program is really convenient for students and instructors who are taking online classes. Even though I had hard time to do this week's assignment, I am satisfied because I learned alot about the new technology which is Google Docs and the law of copyright in the United States which is important as student and future teacher. I am proud of myself to learn these from this assignment.

Personal Reflection 2

From this assignment, I learned about the concept of social bookmarking's benefit. Before I did this assignment, I did not know about the Diigo and the social bookmarking system. While I was looking around other classmates' bookmarking, I could learn what others learned. I checked every bookmarking from other classmates, and I learned some different concepts.
I think social bookmarking system is good for sharing information and knowlege between people who have similar interest or goal. I also thought that this social bookmarking program will be really helpful for this class to expand my learning. It will give me many benefits by sharing various information.  Even though this class is held online, I could share different information or opinion due to this social bookmarking system and learn more. After I was done with this assignment, I realized that the development of technology take an important part in education field. Since many technologies help teachers to teach students effectively whether in plain class or online class, teachers should know how to apply many technologies in class. I as a future teacher should know the technologies as well as learn how to use them.

Personal Reflection

From this week assignment, I became familiar with many terms relating to eLearning. First of all, I learned the definition of netiquette exactly. I searched information to defind this term, and I realized that the meaning of netiquette is not simply as I thought. I thought netiquette is a term that indicates only the way of communication among people on the internet. However, now I know that the netiquette means every manners that people treat other people or information on the internet. Eventually, netiquette includes every actions that occurs on the internet. I also learned many terms that is related to eLearning and technology. I tried to find definition of 'eLearning', 'Learning Community', and 'Formative Evaluation'. Learning these vocabulary will help me to understand to learn what the eLearning means. Throgh this assignment, I became friendly with these terms and learned  the importance of netiquette.

My Biography

I was born in 1988 in Southern Korea. After I was born, my grandfather named me Hyerin Suk which means twinkling wisdom. My family wants me to be wise as I grow. In 1995, I entered elementary school in my hometown and graduated in 2000. When I was sixth grade of elementary school, I wanted to be a simultaneous interpreter because I was interested in English. My mom introduced me an young lady as an English teacher when I was 8 years old. My private English tutor was really nice and kind to me so that I could be interested in learning English. Due to her hard job, English was my favorite subject at school.

However, after I entered middle school, my future dream has changed. I saw many English teachers in school, and I hoped to be an English teacher in my future instead of a simutaneous interpreter. Still my favorite subject was English at that time. During the English class, I enjoyed it very much. When I told my family about my future dream, they glad to hear that. I felt I was supported by my family. In the high school, I studied English harder to major in English in the university. Finally, I entered the university majoring in English Literature. I was really happy that I can focus on only studying English. All my family members were happy too with my successful enter to the university. After I entered my university, I applied for Education course to get English Education degree. During the univeristy life, I would like to come to the U.S. to learn English deeply and get more life experience. So I came to the U.S. a year ago, taking time off school. I think my choice to come to the U.S. was a great one since I can learn about eLearning, taking this course. I am happy now because I can learn more. With these my experience, I will be an English teacher in Korea.
